Calculus based physics or algebra based physics?
Which physics should I take for prepharmacy. At my school I've heard that the Calculus based physics isn't really hard and that the algebra based physics can be just as difficult (my smart friends have gotten close to zeros on exams). I got a 3.0 in the first quarter of calculus and I'm going to take the rest of calculus. I don't think I am as strong at the math as other students.
I took physics in high school for a semester but got a C and I didn't really like it. It says that they recommend a year of high school physics for the calc-based one. I go to a big school and I'm thinking that maybe the calc-based is more competitive. What do you think? Should I just complete the Calculus series for math and then decide on the physics? I did pretty well in Gen Chem so I think my Algebra is okay. Is there complicated math? Will it be just taking simple derivatives and integrals? I'm majoring in English.
The truth is that typically Calculus based basic physics is still 90% algebra and 10% simple calculus. But that 10% explains a lot. Physics without calculus is just memorization of a bunch of equations, but physics with calculus teaches a few basic concepts out of which the equations are derived.
If your taking physics just to get the college credit and be done with it, then I would take the algebra one. But if you want a better understanding of physics, or want to practice using calculus then give the calculus based one a try. Also if your unsure try contacting the physics department and talking to the professor who teaches one of the courses.
