Tim Russert Straight Up Owns John McCain

We could post 1,000 video clips to demonstrate the greatness of the late Tim Russert and still not run out. You can’t sum up the man with one two-minute excerpt, but we came across this topical one over the weekend.

Here’s Tim Russert (may he rest in peace) taking GOP nominee John McCain to task over his Iraq policy and its inherent contradictory nature …

By now, most web-savvy voters have become quite familiar with the smart, sassy and sexy Obama Girl / Super Obama Girl, also known as Amber Lee Ettinger.

McCain Promises to Veto Every Single Beer

This just in: Sen. John McCain is not a fan of beer. So much for his credibility with those small town, town hall audiences he adores so!

Giving a speech the other day on fiscal restraint, John McCain was trying to say that as president, he’d veto every single bill with earmarks that arrived on his desk. But what came out of his mouth was a little different…

John McCain makes a Freudian slip of sorts… an ironic one, coming from the husband of Cindy McCain - the chairperson of a huge beer distribution company.

When Keith Olbermann Attacks Again!

Keith Olbermann is kind of awesome.

Responding to John McCain’s remark that a timetable for withdrawing troops from Iraq is “not too important,” the MSNBC commentator called the GOP nominee’s perception of the war “a figment of his imagination.”

He proceeded to dissect the so-called context John McCain says his Iraq statements - both past and present - are always being taken out of!

He can be an extremist at times, but in this “Special Comment,” Olbermann simply let an assortment of John McCain quotes on Iraq to do the talking.

A mission where success would be fairly easy, he said. An overwhelming victory in a short period of time. Americans cheered as liberators!

The list of lies, false promises, misconceptions and absurd policy positions straight from Sen. McCain’s mouth goes on and on and on.

Here’s some “context” for you

Not Too Important?

With each passing day, Sen. John McCain furthers abandons his “maverick” persona and becomes more like the least popular president in U.S. history.

That’s fine with us, if it ends in his resounding defeat.

The Republican nominee was asked yesterday by Today host Matt Lauer if he had an estimated date for U.S. troops to begin returning home from Iraq.

McCain’s response:

Whatever John McCain’s message is (click here for his full interview with Lauer) in all of this, he’s not doing a terrific job of proving he’s the one who’s in touch with our troops and our national security needs.

Not to mention our economy, environment, civil liberties, and so on.

This isn’t his “100 years” remark, either, which was taken somewhat out of context. This is quite straightforward - and our soldiers and their families would probably take issue with McCain’s assertion that it’s not too important.

This Just In: Barack Obama is a Terrorist Fist Jabber!

What, are you taken aback by this headline?

Don’t you remember the fist bump Barack Obama exchanged with his wife the night he sewed up the Democratic nomination?

As Fox News rationally explains below, how else could this gesture be interpreted other than to categorize it as a “terrorist fist jab?” (We had no idea so many Major League Baseball players were terrorists.)

Hillary Redeemed

Last Tuesday night, when Sen. Barack Obama formally clinched the Democratic nomination for president, his rival, Sen. Hillary Clinton, did not concede and endorse him at a moment when party unity mattered most.

For all her talk that she has the nation’s interest at heart, her inaction Tuesday sent the message that only her dynastic ambitions matter.

Saturday afternoon, that all changed.

Bowing out of the race before thousands of supporters in Washington, D.C., Hillary ended her bid for the White House on the highest possible note, throwing her support behind Barack Obama and urging her followers to do the same.

She was sincere in her disappointment at falling short in the Democratic race, for personal reasons and because she believed she would be the best candidate.

But she was also sincere in her desire to see Obama elected. It was unquestionably Clinton at her best, giving us confidence for the party’s November hopes.

What her role is going forward in the campaign remains to be seen, but Hillary Clinton went a long way toward redeeming herself with this speech Saturday:

Barack Obama’s Victory Speech in Minnesota

After five months of primaries, 16 months of campaigning, 36 million votes cast, ups, downs, and plenty of controversy along the way, Sen. Barack Obama finally clinched the Democratic nomination for president yesterday evening.

In what he called a “defining moment for our nation,” Obama becomes the first African-American to head the ticket of a major political party.

Speaking to an overflow rally at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. - the venue for this year’s Republican National Convention - Barack Obama made great strides in healing some of the divides with Sen. Hillary Clinton and within the Democratic party, then focused his attention on battles still to come.

Here’s his address to the Minnesota crowd …

It was one of his best - no small feat considering who we’re talking about. Follow the jump for a transcript of Barack Obama’s victory speech

Hillary Clinton: South Dakota Victory Speech

Sen. Hillary Clinton won the South Dakota primary last night, the latest in a string of battles she has carried in recent months.

The war, however, has been lost for the former First Lady. Sen. Barack Obama won the Montana primary - and the Democratic nomination.

Hillary Clinton was congratulatory in her South Dakota victory speech, but stopped short of endorsing her rival or conceding the race.

Her next move? Only Hillary knows what that may be.
